Volunteer Efforts

We are incredibly grateful for all the hard-working volunteers who support our efforts in so many ways. To give them thanks we would like to showcase the highlights of our latest volunteer work days. To see more updates please follow us on Facebook.

Cleanup at the Barn

Historic Barn on the Monteith Farmstead

On a Saturday in Mid-March of 2021 we had a wonderful work group of volunteers who pulled down vines and cut down small trees close to the barn. The workers were Marty Greeble, AWM President, Tom Lenehan, and Loran Berg of the AWM. Volunteers from Western Carolina University included Bear Cook, Zachary VanDyke, and Cassie Troy.

Porch Cleanup

On the last Saturday of October, 2020 we had members of the Sylva Rotary Auxiliary Club come volunteer their time to clean and repair the wrap around porch.  Thank you to all who volunteered to brighten up our porch!

Growing the Garden

Thanks to our amazing garden volunteers we have a revamped greenhouse which is home to seedlings of tomatoes, peppers, and loofahs. Also, we have germination from all seeds directly planted, including peas, spinach, carrot, beet, lettuces, and greens. We covered them with white cloth that will continue to protect the seedlings from the heavy rain coming.
