Plan to attend the 6th Annual Airing of the Quilts!

Where: Appalachian Women’s Museum, 100 W. Hometown Place,  Dillsboro NC
Cost:  FREE  – Donations are always appreciated to support our permanent exhibits.

 

The airing of quilts is a traditional rite of spring in the mountains.  After a long winter with families snuggled under layers of warm handmade quilts, the warmer weather of springtime gave women a chance to freshen up and air-out these essentials covers.  We want to invite you to be part in this special day! To honor this tradition, the Appalachian Women’s Museum began an annual event in 2017 where as many as 65 quilts hung on the wrap around porch, from clotheslines in the yard, and on quilt racks and other surfaces throughout the first floor of the museum.  This year we are excited to once again share quilts of local makers going back generations. Come visit us at our traditional Airing of the Quilts at the Appalachian Women’s Museum.

About Registering Your Quilt                          Deadline to Register – April 25, 2024

Types of Quilts: You may register family heirloom quilts, quilts you’ve made or made by someone else, can be hand stitched or machine stitched, can be old, can be new. Please do not register quilts commercially made, since this exhibition features quality, one-of-a-kind craftsmanship.   

Friendship Album Quilt
Visitors will also have an opportunity to purchase a square on a Friendship Album Quilt with their name or honoring someone in their lives.
