Airing of the Quilts

On Saturday, April 21st, from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m., a mountain tradition of “Airing of the Quilts” will be held at the Appalachian Women’s Museum (AWM).  We want to invite you to have a part in this special day by exhibiting your quilts – old or new, made by you or by someone else – in short, any quilts you want to bring.  This is not a competition, rather, it is an exhibition.

Register your quilt using the form below by April 2nd  along with emailing a photo of your quilts.  Include as much of the history of your quilts as you know.  Quilts should be brought to the AWM between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. on April 21st and may be picked up after 4:00 p.m.

Plan to enjoy music at the pavilion on the property, a raffle of Linda Kotila’s quilt watercolor (and possibly some other items), a quilt scavenger hunt,  and a photographer to take photos of quilts and owners.  We are especially excited about having a quilt square/fabric scraps exchange.  Folks can bring squares or fabric they no longer want, measured and labeled with amount of yardage, and placed in plastic ziplock bags.  It’s a great way to recycle like our quilting ancestors used to do!

We hope you’ll help make this a great day by bringing your quilts and by coming to see the others.  If you have questions, please contact Cheryl Beck at (828) 421-3820 or cabeck@ncsu.edu
